“shoot the people you love”

I guess that “humans” for me is an extension of exploration. I’m not much of a portrait photographer in the traditional sense of the word. I like to capture humans in their world, doing the things that makes them human. I guess that I’m actually everything the native Americans from long ago were afraid of; to capture a persons soul in photographic form…that’s the goal of it all.

I am very much someone who would prefer to be behind the camera, I rarely like photos of myself, and they are nearly always candid if I do…I have, however started to take more photos of myself in reflection (both physically and metaphorically) in an attempt to normalise catching humans in their environment. I had a discussion with a friend recently, he’s a renowned portrait photographer and he told me: “in truth, nobody gives a fuck”. I have tried to keep this in my mind when getting my camera out in public, people are usually more interested than anything else…especially in the Bronica
